Step 1 Choose Your Presentation Style

20 Minute Oral Session

Submissions are to showcase projects, programs, experiences or research, along with three key learning outcomes.

90-Minute Workshops

Workshops will require an interactive format to facilitate active learning, such as discussion, activities, small group role plays. The format should focus on offering participants an interactive information session.

Poster Presentations

Poster presentations are visual displays of material to be presented and constitute an interactive and communicative medium, usually combining text and graphic information.

Table Top Session

Table tops act as a pathway for networking and sharing of information directly with delegates in an interactive setting. Table tops involve multiple presenters, with each presenter at a round table of up-to 9 participants. Presenters change tables every 12 minutes to present to a new round of participants.

Panel Presentations

Panel presentations bring together views from a group of presenters into a discussion of innovative ideas, current topics, and relevant issues. Panel submissions are required to organise each panel member and their perspective in advance. There is a minimum of 3 and maximum of 6 individual presenters required for a panel. One person is also chosen to be the representative of the panel submission.

  • Strategies for staff recruitment, retention, burnout and fatigue management, mental health, and wellbeing
  • Adapting to environmental challenges and concerns, including climate change
  • Effective and consistent management of information and data
  • Best practise in developing and implementing procedures and systems
  • Collaborating and aligning resources between government, communities, and private organisations
  • Role of media in disaster preparation, response, and recovery
  • Exploring the potential of new and emerging technologies
  • Harnessing, recruiting, retaining, and managing the volunteer army
  • Liaison with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, Pacifica and Māori peoples in planning, response, recovery, and healing
  • Food/ water resilience and security during crises
  • Strategies to harness strengths and minimise risks for diverse groups during and post disaster (incl. homeless, disabled, children, elderly, non-English speaking residents, visitors)
  • Maximising long term recovery by building community capital (social, cultural, financial, natural, political, human, and built capital)
  • Reflection of international/national case studies from recent crises- e.g. COVID-related, Beirut explosion, Taal Volcano Eruption, Californian Fires, Australian 2019/20 Black Summer
  • Lessons identified and implementing suitable strategies to overcome these challenges accordingly
  • Operationalising emerging data, platforms, tools, and advice
  • Transitioning to virtual incident and emergency management coordination
  • Collaboration between national and international services to test new concepts, technology, policies, and procedures
